The League of Extraordinary G’z perform at Kiss and Fly during SXSW, Austin, March 14, 2012

The rap showcase at the Kiss and Fly on Wednesday night March 14, 2012  featured Austin’s hometown heroes the League of Extraordinary G’z and a crowd so dense it was impossible to move. #SXSW

Most people that are into music are familiar with African-derived musics of the Caribbean like calypso, soca and reggae. Fewer are familiar with African-derived musics from South American countries like Colombia. This musical group, known as Grupo Canalon, is an Afro-Colombian group that drew a huge crowd playing on 6th Street in Austin during SXSW.

When I walked back to downtown Austin on 6th, I noticed that the R & B group with the really cold drummer was still playing on the street where I had seen them before walking to East Austin for the New Orleans bounce event. The street was filled with people from one end to the other. #SXSW

Katie Redd and other New Orleans bounce rappers and fans cut up at the back patio stage at Hotel Vegas, East Austin, Wednesday, March 14, 2012, SXSW

This R & B group was performing at the far east end of Sixth Street near the interstate, but what really impressed me was the funky drummer who was the foundation of the group. #SXSW
