Somehow I had never heard of the Cooper House Project. Perhaps part of the reason was that it is being designated a “brewery,” and I am not a beer drinker. But after a day of substitute teaching in Orange Mound, on a Friday, while driving up Cooper toward Midtown thinking about coffee, I happened to see the place, attractively decorated and welcoming, with the words “coffee” and “pastries” prominently featured on the sign board in front. Since it was a new spot, I decided to park and go inside, and what I found is quite amazing.
As the name suggests, Cooper House is very much like a house. It has a comfortable atmosphere, with tables and chairs, and a considerable amount of modern artwork on the walls. The mornings when it is open are given over to coffee and various pastries (the hours vary, so check their website), and then at a certain time, coffee gives way to craft beer. So, somewhat peculiarly, Cooper House is both a coffee house and a brewery.
However, it is also a pizzeria. While I did not get a chance to try the pizza on the particular Friday afternoon I stopped by, I certainly intend to return and try it. Altogether I was pleased with the cozy atmosphere, my cookie and my coffee. It is definitely a worthwhile spot to drop in and unwind from the stresses of the day.
