Funk drum cadences have for a long time been a part of the Memphis cultural landscape. References to the unusual drum cadences played by African-American high school bands in Memphis can be found at least back to 1955, and each year, young drummers in Memphis create new ones. This cadence was played yesterday at the Whitehaven Classic high school football event.
