On the Patio with Joshua McCain and the Soul Seven at the Greyhound

After I walked up to the Dollar General Store on the Main Street Mall to buy batteries for my camera, I was closer to Union Avenue than I was to Beale Street. So I decided to walk on to Union Avenue and down to The Greyhound, which is a bar in the Hilton Garden Inn which pays tribute to the Greyhound Bus Station that used to be on that site. The band Joshua McCain and the Soul Seven, which has been active in Memphis for more than a decade, was setting up on the patio. The weather was warm, so the bar windows were open to the outside, and there was a small group of folks inside, as most people were down by the FedEx Forum where the Grizzlies were opening their season.

Joshua McCain plays keyboards, and Sidney Kirk Jr. plays drums, but unfortunately, on this evening, the bass player’s car broke down, and he could not get to the gig. With the addition of vocalist Jerald Bailey, the band played two sets of great soul, R & B and blues, including tunes by Frankie Beverly and Z. Z. Hill. The Greyhound is an attractive venue, with a full food menu. It was a great ending to a busy night in Memphis.
