Local Wine Made From Local Grapes in Shelby County, Tennessee

Delta Blues Winery, just east of Rosemark inside the city limits of Lakeland, is Shelby County’s only local winery. An older one near Millington closed a couple of years ago, and there is one to the east in Fayette County. While most people probably do not think of wine when thinking of West Tennessee, wine can be made anywhere grapes will grow. I’m not much of a wine drinker, but when a friend wanted to visit Delta Blues, I agreed to go along.

Delta Blues offers white wines, red wines, and sweet, fruit-based wines, as well as wine jellies, and ordinary jellies, including muscadine. But what they also offer is an absolutely beautiful space, including a lake and fountain full of ducks, a swamp, lovely sloping vineyards, and a comfortable main building where tastings and live music occasionally occur. On Sundays, there is also live music outside during the warm weather season. Even for the non-wine enthusiasts, Delta Blues offers a fun getaway from the hustle and bustle of the big city and is worth a visit. However, getting there can be somewhat difficult. The winery is best accessed from the Stewart Road exit off of Tennessee Highway 385, the Paul Barret Parkway. It is just a mile or so south of the exit on Stewart Road.
