Steps from Venice Beach, this cool restaurant called The Terrace was open for breakfast Thanksgiving morning, and was packed to the rafters. The prices are a little higher than usual for breakfast, but the food is well worth it. November 24, 2011

Venice Beach, at the foot of Washington Boulevard, early on Thanksgiving morning, November 24, 2011. The area was actually somewhat crowded, despite the cold, with young people trying to get up a crowd for a football game on the sand at 10 AM. “The Canal vs. The Point”, they said.

After having lunch with a friend in Van Nuys, I headed out to meet my stepbrother and his family at Knotts Berry Farm in Anaheim, but I hadn’t expected the trip to take two and a half hours on the crowded freeways! When I got there, there was only about an hour of daylight left, but we had fun anyway. November 23, 2011

The Berlin Coffeehouse and Fingerprints Records share a building on 4th Street in Long Beach, just east of the downtown area. The record store is really cool, with plenty of rare vinyl and used compact discs, as well as some imports and new releases, particularly from obscure labels.

It was 5 PM when I arrived back in Long Beach from Catalina Island, and my stepbrother and his family had driven down from the San Bernardino area to meet me for dinner at Long Beach, so we ate at the Yard House and walked around Shoreline Village. November 22, 2011
