For my first breakfast in Austin the week of South By Southwest, I chose a new restaurant on 10th Street called simply Bacon. I was immediately charmed by the attractive building, and I found that as the name suggests, bacon plays a prominent role on the menu, which features both breakfast items and burgers. They even have their own “house bacon”, which is cured on the premises. Bacon is located at 900 W 10th Street in Austin near Lamar Boulevard. Follow them on Facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/BaconAustin

Allure is a new waterfront restaurant on Lake Ray Hubbard in Rockwall, Texas, just outside of Dallas. Having learned about it on Facebook, I decided to stop there for dinner while on my way to South By Southwest in Austin.

Majorette Jamboree at Elliston Academy, Memphis, 3/10/12
On Saturday, March 10, 2012, there was a majorette jamboree at Elliston Baptist Academy in Southeast Memphis. Although there aren’t as many drumlines as there used to be, jamborees are still a big part of Memphis culture. By some accounts, the concept of majorette and drummer jamborees began in Memphis in the 1960’s.
