It was the first really warm Sunday afternoon of the year, and one where I had a rare Sunday afternoon gig with Big Don Valentine and the All-Stars. We were to play at LD’s Sports Bar, a small place on North Thomas in North Memphis owned by the same man who owns the much larger CC’s Blues Club across the street. Since the weather was pretty, I left the house early and took a leisurely drive across North Memphis, taking pictures of the Tyre Nichols memorial wall, old jukes, the old Civil War-era Brick Church, which is slowly collapsing, and the club where we were to play. Although the gig was an early one, we had a wall-to-wall crowd of blues lovers.
