Turrell, Arkansas, about ten miles north of Marion, is like a number of East Arkansas Delta towns. Once dependent on agricultural, it is fading away rapidly, as its downtown buildings crumble. There was once undoubtedly a blues culture in Turrell, with juke joints and even a hotel, but nothing remains. Although the town is close to Memphis, the loss of its school district several years ago precludes any future for Turrell as a suburban community for the larger city.
