DJ Jubilee in the Treme

New Orleans bounce veteran DJ Jubilee was in the Treme before the Dumaine Street Gang parade. He’s still active in the bounce scene and has gained more awareness since Hurricane Katrina and the academic interest in bounce reflected in a flurry of post-Katrina exhibits, films and books. Like him on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/DJJubilee to keep up with that he’s doing.

The Jazz Corner of the World

Treme, recently famous due to an HBO television series, deserves to be famous for other things. It is said to be the oldest Black neighborhood in America, and is most likely the neighborhood where jazz music was born.

A Coffee Bar in the Treme

Café Treme is a bright, attractive coffee and art space in the historic Treme neighborhood north of the French Quarter in New Orleans. In addition to offering coffee, desserts and light foods, Café Treme hosts writers’ workshops as well. Praline Bacon? Yes, indeed!

Elizabeth’s Restaurant in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans is an amazing breakfast spot in a quiet neighborhood some distance from the hustle and bustle of the French Quarter and Marigny. They serve more than breakfast of course, but they’re justifiably famous for their praline bacon. Visit them at http://www.elizabethsrestaurantnola.com/ and plan on giving them a visit when you’re in New Orleans.
