Long before there was a subdivision or a Rivercrest Elementary School, Guffin Road was a driveway belonging to the farmer and blues musician Lum Guffin. The members of his family called it Guffin Lane, and the small wooden house in which he lived is still standing, surrounded by a large open space which belongs to one of his sons.
Every fall, the Guffin homestead is the site of a large car show, which brings hundreds of people together. The weather is always beautiful, and there is usually a DJ, food trucks, and of course lots of restored and custom cars and trucks. Each year I run into old friends from Bartlett High School, and even young kids have a great time. They particularly like to see the cars peal out when they turn onto Guffin Road on their way home at the end of the afternoon.
