A Favorite Returns to Gurkin’s No. 4 in Moscow, Tennessee

People who live in Fayette County or who frequently travel Highway 57 were dismayed some months ago when the long-time Gurkin’s Quick Stop No. 4 convenience store was sold to new owners, particularly once they realized that they could no longer get the soft-serve chocolate ice cream in a styrofoam cup that has thrilled customers for years. Despite the iconic soft-serve cone neon sign above the building, a clerk explained to me that the machine had been broken down before the sale occurred, and that they had no plans to repair it or start offering the tasty treat again.

But on a July visit, things had changed for the better. Not only is Gurkin’s still open 24 hours a day, but they have repaired the machine and again are selling their delicious soft-serve chocolate frozen dessert. It still has the wonderful balance of dark chocolate to sweet, and a cup is probably more generous than you need or want! It makes a good nightcap after checking out the blues band at Saine’s Blues Club up on Highway 76 on a Saturday night.
