Coffee and Comfort in Somerville

Coffee is America’s most popular drink, and its popularity is rapidly spreading to rural America. Once people had to drive to the big city like Memphis or Jackson, Tennessee to find a coffee house or coffee bar, but now local options are starting to appear in even the smallest towns. That includes the Somerville, Tennessee in Fayette County, where a new gift shop and coffee bar called White House and Coffee Company has appeared.

The White House is a fairly large building at Warren, a small Fayette County hamlet that has since been annexed into Somerville. It is located on Highway 64 west of Somerville, and has two storefronts, with a small patio. The space on the right houses a sort of general store, with gifts and crafts of various kinds, while the space on the left with the patio is the coffee house. Inside, it is an inviting space, with comfortable seating and a bookshelf of Christian books for patrons.

Of course, one usually goes to a coffee bar for the coffee, and in that, the White House does not disappoint. With temperatures in the 90s, I opted for an iced mocha, and was very pleased indeed. They also feature a glass case of baked goods, and I had a hard time choosing between a chocolate peanut butter cupcake or a large chocolate chunk cookie. I ultimately chose the cookie. Service is friendly, and there appears to be a drive-thru for those in a hurry. The White House is open from 6:30 AM to 6 PM. The gift shop opens each day at 10 AM. As might be expected in a small town, they do not open on Sunday.
