I woke up at 5 AM Sunday morning in Monroe, checked out of the hotel, ate breakfast and headed out for New Orleans for a second-line that started at 1 PM. Social Status (@TheSocialStatus) is Charlotte’s newest hip-hop shop in Plaza-Midwood, full of upscale urban wear and shoes.
Rap City Fashions is yet another hip-hop shop in Charlotte, this one on the north side of the city on Tryon Street.
The Black Republic is a new hip-hop shop in West Charlotte on West Boulevard just east of Remount Road. Besides an impressive selection of hip-hop clothing from Fly Society, Playwear, 10 Deep, Crooks and Castles and more, Black Republic also sells mixtapes by local DJ’s including Carolina legend DJ Chuck T. It’s kind of off the beaten path, but worth a detour.
Wish (@WishATL) is a one-of-a-kind upscale hip-hop boutique in the Little Five Points nieghborhood of Atlanta. The shop features many clothing lines not found in other shops, and a downstairs basement full of sneakers. Madgods, an Austin-based hip-hop clothing line, had this temporary store between Sixth Street and the Hilton hotel. There were some really cool designs, but, unfortunately, they didn’t have the shirt I liked in my size.
