Midtown Memphis’ Hi-Tone was the scene for last night’s Underground Kingz hip-hop event featuring Sidewayz, Ray Rebel, Royal T, 2 Fingaz and Flys and Hundreds. There is an unprecedented amount of hip-hop talent in Memphis these days.

A block or so past the Foote Homes housing project, I noticed this painted logo on the wall of an old historic building. It’s part of the Memphis Convention and Visitors’ Bureau campaign, of course, but it’s still cool.

As I was driving downtown I noticed this drumline marching across Danny Thomas Boulevard from one side of the Foote Homes project to the other. It turned out to be the Booker T. Washington High School drumline practicing on an extremely warm day, February 23, 2012
