K PreSha Clothing Boutique at 323 South Main in Memphis’ South Main Arts District is the latest urban fashion boutique to open in Memphis. They have both women’s and men’s fashions, and their shop is an occasional venue for private parties. (Note the cool Goldcrest 51 logo on the brick wall. Goldcrest 51 was for many years Memphis’ local brand of beer).

Cities Aviv – ‘Coastin’

Cities Aviv is a young rapper from Memphis whose tracks are notable for their exceptional sampling choices and rich lyrical content.  “Coastin’” samples “Easy to be hard” by Shirley Bassey, which was famously covered by Three Dog Night. Other sampled artist include artist ranging from Gil Scott Heron to Depeche Mode. He’s from Memphis but his high energy and aggressive lyrical songs are more influenced by east coast lyricists and producers than popular southern artists. Last year’s full length Digital Lows  is filled with standout tracks and the singles he has released since show Cities Aviv could get a lot of attention after people hear his spacey laid back hip hop.  I look forward to Cities Aviv’s next release.

GHETTO COWBOY NEW CD: CHECK YOUR MAIL BOX PREVIEW 2012 video (by emersonemp12)

The first nationally-distributed album from Monroe, Louisiana’s legendary Ghetto Cowboy will be in stores March 20, 2012.

Memphian Andrew Booker makes his debut on the Southern Soul scene with his new EP “I Miss My Mom N Dad”, featuring eight first-rate shots of soul and blues. From the opening “Bingo Lover”, where he complains that his woman loves bingo more than him, to the title track which will move anyone who has lost their parents, “I Miss My Mom and Dad” walks the line between blues and soul. There are traditional blues like “I’m About to Get Old” and “Don’t Tell Me”, and uptempo romps like “20 Hard Days” and “Policeman Coming ‘n You Going to Jail.” While there’s little here that would be unexpected, this is a well-done debut from a new voice in Memphis blues and soul.
