This Saturday I went to my first majorette jamboree of the new year, the Diva Time Community Steppers Memphis Sound Showcase at the Elliston Baptist Academy gym. Although the place was crowded and there were some examples of great dancing, jamborees in Memphis have become little more than dance contests, with the various groups doing their routines to hit songs on compact discs rather than the traditional drum cadences. Only Crump Elementary from Hickory Hill did their routine with drummers.
