From Ebenezer to Kenny Dorham’s Backyard

On the east side of I-35 in Austin is the East Austin community, a historic location full of important landmarks, such as the Ebenezer Baptist Church, or the large outdoor performance space known as Kenny Dorham’s Backyard where many diverse SXSW showcases take place. Jazz great Kenny Dorham was actually from Fairfield, Texas, but he lived in the East Austin neighborhood for a period of time before he headed to New York and greatness.
