Kicking Off the Summer With the H.O.P.E. Summer Jam on the West Bank

On my previous day’s journey to Lafitte, Louisiana, I had seen signs around the West Bank towns advertising something called the H.O.P.E. Summer Jam which was to be held on Saturday night at Behrman Stadium in Algiers. When I googled the event, I found it was to be an outdoor rap and bounce music concert, so I knew I wanted to attend and had driven over to the stadium earlier in the day on Saturday to purchase an advance ticket. While the event didn’t attract the larger crowds the promoters had hoped for, a couple of hundred youths turned out to hear four hours of New Orleans rap and bounce music to celebrate the end of school and promote peace in the neighborhoods.
