Last week I got hired to play a gig on the American Cruise Line’s new riverboat Queen of the Mississippi from Memphis to Paducah, which gave me a unique opportunity to experience a cruise up the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. Because of severely-low water levels, the boat could not dock at the cobblestones in downtown Memphis, and we boarded instead at the far north end of Mud Island.

The Blues Tent is the only place in the Beale Street Music Festival where fans have access to the Mississippi River, and in the late evening, beautiful sunsets like this one go great with good blues music.Â
