Jimbo Mathus and the Tri-State Coalition closed out the regular schedule at the 2011 North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic. After their set, there was a jam session with many of the musicians who had played earlier, and then it was over for another year.

The North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic will be held June 24-25, 2011 at Foxfire ranch at Waterford, Mississippi. This is in Marshall County, between Holly Springs and Oxford, just off Highway 7. Many of the living legends of the Hill Country blues style will be performing, as well as the young generation of artists influenced by legends like Otha Turner, R. L. Burnside or Junior Kimbrough.Â
The Hill Country Harmonica Homecoming at the Hill Country Blues Pavilion, Foxfire Ranch, Waterford, MS May 21, 2011
At a Highway 7 store, an older man explained to me that the Burnside Blues Cafe wasn’t open because the Burnsides (or at least some of them) were out at Foxfire Ranch because of something called the Hill Country Harmonica Homecoming. So I drove to the ranch, and got in on the tail end of blues duo Satan and Adam doing “Staggerlee”, followed by the band Sugar Blue. Lots of fun at the Hill Country Blues Pavilion.
