Memphis’ newest frozen dessert option has opened in a bright, colorful building in a fairly unlikely place, Summer Avenue in East Memphis. Jeremiah’s Italian Ice is a national chain, but the Memphis location, in a former Wendy’s building, is a brightly colored, remodeled building that is impossible not to notice. There is an outdoor patio in front, and a children’s play area indoors, and plenty of seating. But of course what brings people in is the frozen dessert options, which are amazing. Most Italian ice is generally in fruit flavors, but Jeremiah’s has unusual flavors like peanut butter and hazelnut ices, which can be blended with the vanilla and chocolate soft-serve ice creams to form desserts which are called gelatis. A limited number of toppings are available, including semi-sweet chocolate chips. I chose a blended gelati with chocolate soft-serve and peanut butter ice topped with the chocolate chips, and it was absolutely delicious. Furthermore, Jeremiah’s is open until 11 PM every night. It is well worth a visit, even if it is a bit off the beaten path.
