Starting the Day at Overtown’s Jackson Soul Food

Overtown was the original Black neighborhood of Miami, and since 1946, Jackson Soul Food has been serving up some of the best breakfasts anywhere. A wall of photos highlights some of the local and national celebrities that have eaten there over the years, and on a Friday morning, my cousin and I had a hard time finding a table. But if you have to wait, it’s worth it, for generous breakfasts at discount prices. I especially have to mention the homemade biscuits, which are among the best I’ve had in a restaurant. Jackson Soul Food is located at the corner of 3rd Avenue Northeast and 10th Street in the Overtown neighborhood, and is open daily from 6 AM to 2 PM, and on certain weekend nights when they have live music.
