I took a day to drive down into the Mississippi Delta, and I stopped first at the Woods Brothers Pottery store in Mound Bayou to buy a piece of pottery for my mother. In the next town down Highway 61, Merigold, I stopped at the more-famous McCarty’s Pottery shop, with its beautiful formal gardens and pool in the back. It was actually Lee McCarty who mentored and encouraged the Woods Brothers, whose studio I had visited earlier. As the day progressed, I worked my way to Greenville and then back up to Clarksdale and Memphis, but altogether it was an enjoyable day.
