On Sunday evening after the parade, I headed down to the Luxe Penthouse in the South Main Arts District for a smooth jazz and neo-soul event featuring several local bands, including a new one called Groove Hard, featuring drummer Kevin Jones. Another band for the occasion featured 4 Soul’s drummer Otis Logan. The Luxe Penthouse is the former Power Station art gallery behind Central Station at South Main and G. E. Patterson Avenue. The building is a former power station for the train station, and it makes a fairly comfortable and elegant venue. There was great music, free food and a full bar, and a decent-sized crowd turned out.
