Memphis rapper Don Trip has received a lot of national acclaim, but has kept a fairly low profile since signing with a major label, and almost never performs in Memphis, so his performance with a live band and the singer-songwriter Singa Bromfield was a welcome opportunity to hear him in his hometown. Memphis rappers performing with live bands is not new, and has been going on at least since Al Kapone did it a few years ago, but Trip’s band was first-rate and they kicked up the enthusiasm a notch for the crowd. Toward the end of Trip’s set, the sun began to peek out from the behind the clouds, the first we had seen of it all day.
