Jerry Lee Lewis is one of Memphis’ most enduring musical icons, one of the legendary early stars of rock and roll, who recorded at the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, and May has been a big month for him, perhaps his biggest in years. On May 1st, he opened Jerry Lee Lewis’ Cafe on Beale Street at the site of the former Dancin’ Jimmy’s/Ground Zero/Pat O’Brien’s, and then this past weekend he made his triumphal return to Memphis at the Beale Street Music Festival, where a goodly crowd braved the mud and rain to hear The Killer.
