Built on the site of a former church, Germantown’s new Congregation Coffee is a locally-owned alternative to the big chain coffee shops that are opening everywhere in Shelby County. Both in its name and its architecture, it reflects the former church’s legacy, and provides a welcoming space for people to linger, gather or work, rather than to just purchase coffee and go. Like any good coffee bar, Congregation offers all the best espresso drinks, but it also features an array of both sweet and savory baked goods, and has occasionally held pop-up events with local bakeries for larger desserts. Prices are less expensive than the corporate entities, and Congregation also has bags of beans for you to take home. However, perhaps also in keeping with being on the site of a former church, they are not open on Sundays.
