Back in 2008, getting coffee (particularly espresso-based drinks) was not easy to do even in Tupelo, much less New Albany. The recent failure of Brew Albany was quite disheartening, so I was thrilled last week to see that a new coffee house has appeared in that northeast Mississippi town . Tupelo River Coffee is based in Tupelo, and roasts its own beans from its location on West Main Street there, but has opened a bright, cheerful location on East Bankhead Street in New Albany. The calm, quiet space is next door to a fitness gym, and is the perfect place to set up a laptop and work or just chill and unwind. Of course, one goes to a coffee bar for coffee, and Tupelo River wins in that department as well. My hot mocha was delicious, and had a darker chocolate flavor than the mochas from other coffee establishments. As would be expected, they also sell their delicious bean coffees to take home, and can grind them for you if you don’t have a grinder at home.
