When I entered Bentonia, I headed straight for the Blue Front Cafe, where I thought the Bentonia Blues Festival was going on, but I soon saw that there were too few cars in town for the festival to be there. In fact, the two trucks in front of the Blue Front Cafe were other would-be festival fans who were also trying to find the venue. At least I got to see the Blue Front Cafe, a legendary juke joint which belongs to bluesman
Jimmy “Duck” Holmes. Bentonia’s business district has largely collapsed like so many smaller towns in Mississippi, and as I spent some time taking pictures, one of the other trucks pulled up and told me how to get to the festival grounds.
