After sitting patiently at the back of the stage during Robert Kimbrough’s performance, Little Joe Ayers and Calvin Jackson came on stage for their performance. As mentioned before, these two men were associated with Junior Kimbrough and R. L. Burnside respectively, and are part of an ever-dwindling circle of authentic Hill Country bluesmen. However,Ayers shocked and saddened the crowd by stating that this year of performing would be his last, and gave for his reason a quote from a Junior Kimbrough song “I done got old. I can’t do the things I used to do.” Indeed, the weather was hot, and Ayers complained of dizziness after his performance.
