In addition to the
Stax Museum of American Soul Music and the
Stax Music Academy, the
Soulsville Foundation also runs a high school called the
Soulsville Charter School, whose purpose is to provide academic instruction in a “musically-rich” environment. The jazz band from Soulsville Charter School performed Sunday at the Stax to the Max festival, and I was amazed at the level of musical accomplishment of these youngsters.
