Dayton’s oldest and best independent record store is Omega Music, a new-and-used store that moved to the city’s Oregon District entertainment area a few years ago. The store is a block long, full of new and used vinyl, with a good selection of CD’s as well. Across the street is a vinyl store called Record Gallery, but because it was a Sunday, the store was closed. The Oregon District proved to be something of a disappointment. Although the buildings were attractive, there were almost no people on the street at all. Most of the shops were closed, and only a few of the bars and restaurants were open. Even more surprising, and disgusting, was the presence of hard-core pornographic book stores and clubs on the street. I found it shocking that Dayton would tolerate those kinds of businesses on a street geared to tourists and entertainment.
