The Street Legends Brass Band are yet another of the ever-growing crop of brass bands in New Orleans. The popularity of the genre locally, and the national and international acclaim given to some of the oldest bands like the Rebirth Brass Band or the Hot 8 provide strong motivations for young people to set up new bands. However, like a lot of the newer bands, the Street Legends (at least indoors) use one drummer with a drumset rather than the traditional snare, bass and cymbals, and also have added an electronic keyboard to their line-up. While there may be valid reasons for doing these things on an indoor club date, for me it seemed to put a distance between the Street Legends and the second-line brass band tradition. No such concerns seemed to trouble the fans at the Maison, who packed the dance floor from wall to wall.
