Shorty’s Burgers and Fries is another Austin food truck with a more-or-less permanent location in the lot at 201 W 5th Street downtown. Open until 3:30 AM during SXSW, it’s the perfect place to hit up after showcases. The burgers and fries are truly incredible, but a word of caution is in order. They are extremely slow. I never mind it, because I see the employees inside working as hard as they can, and they get slammed during the conference, but some people get really disgusted. Just because it’s a food truck does not mean that it will be “fast food”. If you’re trying to grab something quickly and keep moving, Shorty’s is probably not the place for you. But if you’re willing to wait, a Shorty’s burger is worth waiting for. Sometimes speed is overrated.
