Downtown Conway is characterized by restaurants and nightclubs. A sign at the intersection of Oak Street and Front Street calls the district Toad Suck Square. The origins of the name “Toad Suck”, which is also the name of a nearby reservoir and dam, seemingly is a mystery.

Zaza Wood Oven Pizzas and Salads has come to Conway from Little Rock, and has some of the best pizzas I have ever eaten. In addition, they feature homemade gelato. Visit http://www.zazapizzaandsalad.com/ for menus and info.

The Marketplace Grill is a mini-chain, with locations in Conway, Fort Smith and the Fayetteville area, and it is worth a visit if you’re travelling to Arkansas. The diverse and reasonably-priced menu features everything from burgers and pizzas to seafood and steaks, in a setting patterned after old-fashioned farmers’ markets. Visit http://marketplacegrill.com/ for more information and locations.

Driving to Conway, AR for the League of Extraordinary G’z show, I stopped off in Brinkley to grab pictures of the historic Great Southern Hotel and the adjacent train depot which has been made into a museum. Sadly the hotel, which until recently housed a collection of shops, seems to have been abandoned.
