Every year, I celebrate my first day of South By Southwest in Austin by going to breakfast at
The Omelettry. A neighborhood institution since its opening in 1978, the Omelettry is notable for its hip, funky ambiance (particularly note the metal rooster on the front point of the roof), and its food menu, which runs the gamut from breakfast items to tacos and fajitas. The omelettes are particularly good, and well worth waiting for, which is often necessary, as crowds can grow fairly large. Once open only during the day, the Omelettry is now open at night as well until 10 PM. Visit them at 4811 Burnet Road in the Allandale neighborhood of Austin, or call them at (512) 453-5062.
