A Satisfying Steak Dinner At Charlie’s Steakhouse, New Orleans

After the concert in Louis Armstrong Park, I was ready for dinner, and although I started to head to my usual favorite the Steak Knife in Lakeview, I decided to try a place new to me, so I opted for Charlie’s Steakhouse uptown on Dryades Street instead. Charlie’s, I learned, has been around since 1932, and is anything but trendy. The unassuming building is tucked on what essentially is a residential side street, and you might easily dismiss it as just another neighborhood bar. But once inside, Charlie’s satisfies the true steak lover with a basics approach to this most American of cuisines. I had the filet mignon, which was cooked to my exact specifications, and I chose the home-cut fries as my side order. The restaurant decor was interesting as well, with images of New Orleans history prominently displayed. Despite the casual appearance of the restaurant, and casual dress style of the patrons, Charlie’s is not inexpensive. Yet for true American steak and potatoes without all the excess of hipster “New American cuisine”, Charlie’s is a must-visit. However, keep in mind that they close relatively early (9:30 on weeknights and 10 PM weekends) and are closed Sundays and Mondays.
